China's auto sales overtook the U.S. in January for the first time, the country's car industry association says. The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers reports 735,000 vehicles were sold in January, surpassing the 656,976 vehicles sold in the U.S. market.

General Motors, facing a Feb. 17 deadline to show the government it's a viable company, said on Tuesday it will cut 14 percent of its salaried jobs globally by the end of the year and slash the salaries of many who remain.
